For as far back as I can remember, I have never taken a cold shower. If ever hot water has not been available when I wanted to take a shower, I have gone without showering until hot water was available again.
As it stands, my current morning routine looks something like this:
- Wake up
- Make bed
- Take supplements
- Exercise
- Shower
- Study
- Write
- Read
- Go to work
The activities in my morning routine can roughly be divided into pre-shower and post-shower activities. I have been finding that it is quite difficult to have an accurate approximation of when my post-shower activities will begin, which is important to know because being at work by 09:00 puts a hard limit on the total time that can be allocated to them.
All the activities that come before the shower fit in to fairly predictable time-boxes, even the morning workout. Hot showers, relaxing and pleasant though they may be, have a way of making me forget about the passage of time, and this results in the daily variation in the total time that I am able to allocate to the post-shower activities in my morning routine.
In an attempt to try and address this, I am going to start training myself to take cold showers in the morning by gradually decreasing the temperate on a daily basis, and finishing my showers by spending up to a minute under completely cold water.
